    Angry Vectra estate 3.0 V6 SRi, diesel. 2007. Cutting out/not starting! ...

Hi, I'm new to this forum, I hope you can all help me-I'm at the end of my tether with my vectra!! I only got it 4 weeks ago. It's been cutting out when slowing down and revs are low, eg. When I put my foot on clutch to change gear at roundabout etc. sometimes it will start straight back up, sometimes it won't start at all and sometimes it starts but won't rev when the accelerator is pressed and then it just dies after about 5 secs. If driving on motorway it doesn't cut out due to higher revs but will chug and you can tell if I was driving at a slower speed it would've cut out. I've had 2 diagnostics done on it, 1 was fine, 1 said low voltage to relay (relay "peg" was changed but problem remains). I don't know what else to do!! I've been booked in to have it looked at at a garage on Tuesday but not sure what they'll say with no codes coming up!!! Any help would be amazing!! Thanks in advance!!

You need someone that's going to take time other than look at codes

Throttle position sensor voltage would be a start. Fuel pressures. Air intake.
    theirs a lot than affect

    needs a full data read.

Then needs some form of log as the faukt occurs.

Their only not prepared to spend time because their not sure what their looking for.

majority of garages just code read then throw a part at it.

ask them to give you some info on fuel pressure. MAF reading and MAP reading along with throttle position percentage and voltage at various revs

Try to search the words SCV (Suction Control Valve) with the search engine, because it looks like the symptons off that.

And post in the sub forum - Y and Z30DT specifik.

Have they ever carried out repairs on a Z30DT engine (3.0 V6 CDTI)

Let's just make sure we understand this correctly (as you have posted in one long paragraph)

When you turn on the engine, does it rev on idle correctly?
    What are these idle revs?

When you start off, let's say accelerating to 50mph, typically at what revs do you change gear?
What happens when you change gear?

When driving at a constant speed, let's say 50mph, can you engage Cruise Control?
    Will it hold this speed?
What gear are you in when driving at this speed?

think you need to re read the symptoms yourself before advising others.
Scv blockage is not with the symptoms described by the op

Hi guys - thanks for all your suggestions...I'll look them all up and ask the garage about what has been suggested. M8internet, here's my answers :-) :

Where did you obtain this car from?
Bought it from a car dealer in Birkenhead. They are trying to sort the problem and looks like they'll pay under warranty but they did mention about a £100 maximum per claim....

What garage are you using? I'm using a local garage in Wrexham, no Vauxhall garages or anything.

Have they ever carried out repairs on a Z30DT engine (3.0 V6 CDTI)? Not sure about this - I could call up and ask. I'm not sure it's anything to do with the engine as such as theres no major codes coming up...could well be wrong though - I'm no expert!!

Let's just make sure we understand this correctly (as you have posted in one long paragraph)

When you turn on the engine, does it rev on idle correctly?
Its hit and miss - if she's behaving its normal. If not, the revs are quite low and they gradually die down until she stalls.
What are these idle revs? the revs are ususally 700

When you start off, let's say accelerating to 50mph, typically at what revs do you change gear?
Usually change gear at around 2500 revs (usually keep the car at or just under 2000 revs)

What happens when you change gear?
Depends if I'm changing up or down. If I'm slowing down (if shes playing up) she'll just stall. No jolt or anything just smoothly cut out. I seem fine when increasing speed.

When driving at a constant speed, let's say 50mph, can you engage Cruise Control? I think so - don't use this feature much but when I have its been fine.

Will it hold this speed? Holds its speed but when on a motorway if she starts playing up she'll drag and accelerate (feels like mild "kangarooing"!!!) for a few miles then it'll pass for a while.

What gear are you in when driving at this speed? when I drive 50mph I'd say I'm in 4th. I know I keep the revs at or just under 2000.

    Thanks!!! :-)

    When was service carried?

What garage was it you bought it from?

100 max will get you the square route of zero on that engine.

a simple map sensor is £84 so add labour your over and that's one of the most accessible sensors bolted to engine

egr valve is double that. Plus couple of hours labour.
