Default SRi Ride is reall hard

Sorry if i sound abit dumb here but does the SRi vectras have a different/stiffer suspension set up to say an LS? Etc... My mum has a 2003 LS vectra 1.8 and its a real smooth ride when iv driven it, my 2006 SRi is SOLID compared to it and jumps and feels every bump, also iv noticed the front and rear to sort of bang when going over potholes etc like theres no give in the suspension at all, it could be normal but as iv never driven another SRi i wouldnt know. i do know the anti roll bar bushes on the front need changing would that cause the steering to feel unsteady over bumps etc or not?

    thanks all

Its a sports spec hence the stiffer suspension for better handeling and cornering and a sportyer look

    SRi,s have a 15mm drop from standard not 20mm.
chances are your springs have broken and depending on your mileage the shocks might need replacing. If its still on genuine shocks and mileage is 70k plus then they will be worn. you should not be getting bangs when you go over potholes. I have Bilstein B6's and Eibach lowering springs on mine and they are much harder than the Sri setup and they do not bang over potholes

SRi and early SXi spec had 15mm lower springs and different stiffer shock absorbers. The rims are also bigger. All that combined will be why the LS feels softer! Having said that though, it's not normally that bad. With you saying it knocks and bangs, get the suspension checked out. The springs are made of chocolate and if they've snapped or the shocks are worn, that would explain it.

You've got that the wrong way round, early SXi's had standard suspension, the later ones were fitted with SRi suspension.

The MOT rarely picks up dead shocks unless they show signs of leaking and they can miss broken springs (my last four cars I have had can prove this comment). At 71k the shocks are well due for a change. Springs can break when the car is sitting on the drive so even if they were ok at the MOT is does not mean they are ok now

When I was looking for a vectra I test rode a few and amongst them some SRIs and it is true that they feel super hard compared to an LS with its much softer suspension smaller wheels and higher profile, and driving sri you feel not a bang but a solid thud when you hit a pot hole or even sometimes shallow road imperfections, that's why I went for a design and all the confort instead.
