Default Reasonable price for Timing belt \ Water pump change??

    Guys,

Been quoted £304 all in for new Cam belt, Water pump, coolant\antifreeze etc by a local company on my Siggy 1.9 CDTI 150bhp 54 plate, its done 93k and i dont have info whether its been changed prior to me owning it, is this a decent price? I've priced up the kit which is nearing £150 so doesnt seem bad to me

TBH a lot of garages are still just a wee bit scared of doing this job I have found, it is easy and about a 2.5 / 3 hr job to an experienced mechanic with simple tools. It is not worth going too cheap however and is very worth getting the best quality belt you can such as oem or continental.

    Just my thoughts

I know it's not the same engine, but for my 1.8VVT I bought the timing belt kit and waterpump myself at the local dealers for £144, and my local fellow is going to fit them for me. He reckoned between 3 & 4 hours at the very most, and he takes £25 per hour. So, total is likely to be just shy of £250 maximum all in. He said if he manages it in less time, he'll just charge me accordingly.

To be honest, the job looks pretty simple, and I was just going to do it myself. However, to go and buy tools to lock the camshaft, and also a torque wrench, would cost a fair bit. Plus, I'd get my hands dirty!
