    Exclamation Clutch quiery

    Hey guys,

had a weird thing happen to me the other day, id popped to the shop the other day. upon returning to my car and trying to start it it made a sort of screeching grinding noise from the starter and then stalled, I reattempted starting and it started fine so didn't think much of it. i went to pull away and the biting point was really high and just after I got moving and went to go in to second the pedal just dropped to the floor so i pulled over and it popped back up and hasn't done anything like it since. i phoned the garage and they've said to just keep an eye on it and bring it back to them when im in the area again. the engine has seemed a little rattly when starting now and occasionally when im driving and i stop the revs can drop down to about 600/700 and then back up to 850 after a second. just curios as to whats going on. going to clean and lube my swirl bars today and just have a look about under the engine. i have also had my dmf replaced in the last week.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

No idea what car you have as nothing mentioned about engine etc?

But as you say the DMF has been replaced in the last two weeks - take it back.

Clutch could need bleeding through, or slave / master cylinder may be failing.

Defo take it back mate.. Did they change the clutch (4 pieces) when they did the DMF?

Only dmf. They tried to get me to pay for it even though I've only had the car 2 months and it has a years warranty. So they just did dmf.

Thats real bad practice from the garage.

the labour time to strip down to change the DMF - madness not putting a clutch kit in...

Unfortunatly now it sounds like they will have to!

Yh. They said to me it's worn but doesn't need doing. I asked if it was under warranty and they gave me the bull**** about wearing parts. But I didn't pay dealer prices to have a car for 2 months. So going to argue it out with them later this week. Unfortunately I'm 160 miles away working from the garage :-/

See if they will settle on a figure. A clutch and DMF change is approx £800 all in for the job so see if they will contribute towards that from a garage local to you? Dunno....

How can it be bad practice the OP refused it?

Clutch is a consumable. You should have had it changed but at the same time. My dealer replaced the DMF on my car under warranty and the clutch at the same time, but the labour was coverd as they were working in the same area so I only had to pay for the clutch itself.
