Default Flat, faded and unloved paint restoration tips?

How do I go about sorting flat, faded and unloved paint?

Its a 'R' reg Peugeot 106 with a single colour (No lacquer or metallic)

I have a machine polisher and cutting compounds etc.

Is it worth claying and will machine polishing be ok?

If it was me I would just clay it first, then crack on with the cutting compound, use an old pad as solid colours tend to stain them!

Hoping to start on it at the weekend.

Will get some pictures whilst doing it to show how bad it is.
