Question 1.8 vvt (Z18XER) Thermostat Problems

Basically drove the vectra around 25 miles the other day and the temp went up to operating temp (90*c).

But then was on Motorway cruising around 70mph and the temp started to drop until it was not reading anything on temp gauge.
When I arrived at my destination I turned ignition on and off and the temp returned to the operating temp of 90*c.

Does this sound like a new Thermostat needed or could it be some other sensor?

    Many Thanks

This happened to mine--garage changed the complete unit--not cheap about £60 i think, but solved the same problem as you are having--always on around 90-92c now and nice and warm.Think there is another temp sensor on the engine--cheaper to start with-you can always try that first if you like--my money will be on thermostat unit--hope this helps-----Dave

Just bought one for £53.04 from Car Parts 4 Less and will be fitting it at the weekend, you need to make sure you get the right thermostat. I will strip the old housing and see if you can actually just change the thermostat inside?

Anyone with a link to the thermostat? The dealers are quoting £80 +vat Also when looking I seem to find 2 different part no: 24405922 and 55577072.

Both those numbers are correct (for the Z18XER). The 55577072 is now used in place of 24405922.

yes your thermostat has broken mine did the same

the gauge would only rise when stuck in traffic

as soon as i went on the motorway it flat lined to 70 degress

its a common fault on vectra c

just make sure you buy a gm one (original)

(then when you have got a new one fitted) your fuel mpg will be better and hotter in the cabin

the gauge will read 86-89 and stay there within 3 miles lets say with 8 degress reading outside (thats with the heater in the off position)

a bit of info here below

Really appreciate your help. I've just been out in the car again and it got up to temperature perfectly fine and stayed at that temp. Is there anything else it could be as it seems to work correctly now.
