    Default Intermitent Problem

Hello all and a happy new year! I have a problem with my 08 1.9 cdti. Every now and again my engine will run a little lumpy, it revs unevenly and I get alot of smoke from the exhaust and also from the back of the engine. I have recently cleaned out the EGR, Throttle body and replaced the fuel filter. After a couple of days it goes away and everything runs fine. Any help or ideas would be great. Thanks!!

remove engine cover look down towards the glow plugs, bar should be connected to the top of the 4 swirl pots & move when revs increase, have a search of the forum for swirl valves, lots of info

I'd also take her on a long run (20 mins with revs above 2k) - I feel the DPF is trying to clear

Ok, so I checked the swirl bar and that is attached and is moving all the flaps when the revs are increased, gave it a little clean as there was an amount of Gunk around the right hand(as you look at the engine from the front) 2 swirl pots. Took it for a spin on the motorway and that seems to have cured to smoke issue and the up and down revs but......theres always a but. The engine still feels a little lumpy, there is a lack of pull below 2000 rpm and above 2000 rpm there is a loud whistle as you increase on the revs until you reach cruising speed.
I'm going to put some carb cleaner through the throttle body inlet as many have had success with that on here.
Any ideas on what or where I should be looking for the whistle?
Thanks for your input so far!!!
