Right, well the kid in me has come out and just been out to do a few times ...

    Here goes......
    50 - 70 in 3rd: 4.2s
    40 - 60 in 3rd: 3.8s
    50 - 70 in 5th: 6.5s

BTW, this is not intend to kick anything off.... i.e. a "my car/your car is faster" thing, so please dont go there.... . Was just interested to see how mine with the Spider box compares to a VXR and I'm very suprised its so close (I think someone said the VXR did 50-70 in about 3.7s).
Also, my car is likely to go bang before a VXR anyway

Edit: but at least it'll go bang with some fuel still left in it

Yup, that was me trying to use the phone stopwatch, as well as not leaving the dual carriageway, at the same time as looking at the speedo, and going flat out in 3rd.... Not easy, even on a deserted road, so timings probably not v.accurate

    I got:
    50 - 70 in 3rd: 3.7s
    50 - 70 in 5th: 5.9s

I think the difference with the VXR is that if you hold it in gear, it keeps pulling higher up the rev range: I haven't gone beyond 5500rpm as it's only done 2000miles, but it doesn't run out of puff up there... so the Diesel will probably keep up with the VXR until it needs to change gear, which will be that much sooner, at which point the VXR will probably get past.

I must point out though mines running with a Diesel Tuner Spider box pushing out 222bhp and 375 lb.ft. of torque, so its not a fair comparision. So its comparing a tuned diesel with a standard VXR so not exactly like for like. There would be a far bigger gap with a standard 3.0 V6 vs VXR .

Even so, it's doing well for an oil-burner

    Hi All,

Did a comparison today with mine. 5th gear 50mph on the flatest road i could find. Got the following:

2 persons, one to drive one to time, 1/4 tank of fuel, nothing to speak of in the boot. Lights on, no heated back screen or other high loads.

    50 - 70, 5th gear = 4.8 Seconds

This was made up of 4 runs, 1st 4.49, 2nd 4.91, 3rd 4.8, 4th 4.74, so for ease and to err on the side of caution a little, i've gone for the 3rd as i was more used to the test by then, and i believe a tad more acurate.

    Regards

    Daz

    OK.... VXRD Times......

    9.0 degrees
Two People in Car & Full tank of fuel....

    2nd Gear held at 30mph
    30 - 50mph = 3.39, 3.39, 3.19 (average = 3.32)

    3rd Gear held at 50mph
    50 - 70 mph = 4.27, 4.32, 4.23 (average = 4.27)

3rd Gear racing through the revs
50 - 70 mph = 3.37 (one whole second faster once I am on the move)

    4th Gear held at 50mph
    50-70 mph = 5.22

4th Gear racing through the revs
    50-70 mph = 4.05, 4.18

    3rd Gear & 4th Gear held at 60mph
    60-100mph = 11.20

    4th Gear held at 70mph
    70-100mph = 10.05
