    Default Grip in the snow

When I was taking the car out the drive I was looking at the tread pattern in the snow, and I started to think about grip.

With a direction tread (see pic) - would you get more grip if you reversed?

Did not have time to play in the morning and it turned to slush when I got home.

My house is at the top of a slight hill, just wondering if it would give me a slight edge.

Roll on the next snow fall

CPHB - I stay fairly high up and the weather conditions are quite different when I leave home to when I get to the main road (the guys in Glasgow today did not believe there was any snow when I got there).

I don’t have a lot of experience of winter tyres but I almost lost it when I was driving an avenger that had them fitted (a few years ago) – I did not realise the grip on clear/black roads was significantly less than normal road tyres.

I would imagine that you spend a lot of time in the white stuff at this time of year

The toyo winter tyres aren`t really snow tyres, they are tyres with a chunky tread on them but no studs on them, they were great in the wet as well ...

Doesn't it stand to reason then that winter tyres would probably grip better all year round in the UK, given our perma-drizzle climate?

As I've said b4, the cars we drive at work have Goodyear Eagle F1's on, with the directional tread pattern, and the grip is appalling compared to the NCT5's on my vec...

I have not fitted direction tyres for a long time and I have to agree with parapaul - the NCT5's I normally fitted (although not the best tyre) had more grip in the snow (last year).

If you drive the tractor backwards up a slope is the grip bad.
