    Default Cdti 150 ticking engine?

    Had a search & not found anything specific.

    My cdti 150 I've started to notice ticks a lot? Goes with the revs (quicker ticking as you rev it)

    are there any common faults on these engines that have this symptom? It's on 79k and is due a cambelt (being done feb)

    oil level is fine too.


    Il try and get a video up, anyone know what it could be? Cheers

    Not sure what people use these days. There used to be an additive you put in your oil, I think it was made by Forte.

    When was the oil last changed? Mine ticked until I changed the oil...

    I think il change it to see if it helps, I bought the car in November so not sure when it was last done. What's the best to use on these engines?

    Be interesting to see if you solve this. i've had it for age's and just accepted it as something some engine's will do. Oil changed e.c.t. and made no difference, but never tried any additives to the oil.

    I did hear you can re-seat the tappets or something like that, but supposedly everyone just leaves them since it seems to open up a bag of worms (could be coincidence but fixing the ticking noise always seems to lead onto worse problems for people in my experience).

    Of course in the morning's the ticking noise is masked by the cold start rumbling and horribleness for me anyway

    Mine has tapped when cold ever since I bought it with 97k on. It had been serviced at the 'recommended intervals' at a vauxhall stealer all its life up to when I bought it in 2009, - i.e. every 20k miles. Since then I've changed the oil and filter every 5 or 6k and its not got any worse and its now on 128k

    Unless its really bad I'd recommend changing the oil regularly and giving it a good thrashing to see if the sticking valve lifter loosens up. Many people on this forum advise against additives, particularly the flushing ones. Like others have said, if you start taking it apart you might regret it...

    If it still deteriorates rapidly even after changing the oil, then obviously further diagnosis and potentially overhaul will be required.

    i would change the cambelt and waterpump asap
