    Default Query with no claims

Hi all, got a query with regards to my NCB, ive got a two cars, ones a megane and the insurance runs out next month i believe and the other (focus st) in march, now when i got the st in march i went with a different insurer to the first car but the guy said you can only have one NCB running so you cant have it on two cars. Now as the other car is insured with a different one i never said anything to them about having a new NCB running on the new car but at renewal time will i have to inform them and reset the NCB on the megane as ive got one running on the st? Im selling the st in march anyway so bit unsure of how it works, ive got 10 yrs NCB.

    Cheers

Where are you using the 10 years NCD?

You can have 2 policy's running earning their own NCD.

Some insurance company's will 'mirror' the discount if you stay with them for both cars but at the end of the policy's both will only get an extra year as they run out.

Well its on both cars as they are different policies with different insurers.I had the NCB on my megane but then bought the st but the insurance for the megane had already started , then i bought the st and went with another insurer but i told them i had 10 years NCB as i did but dont know if this is wrong, the thing is why should i start a new NCB from zero on the st if ive been driving 10 years claim free? Does one of the policies need to be reset to zero because if i sell the st when the insurance is up in march and the megane has been reset i cant ring them up two months into the policy and say id like to put the NCB back on the megane can i?

You cant use the 10 years on both cars so looks like you got away with it lol.

So what do i need to do? Obviously if one car gets set to zero its going to shoot up? If i was to have the NCD on say just the st and sold it how would that affect the megane if its then got 0 on it? Can i ttansfer the NCD onto that car or would i have to wait until the year is up? Obviously neither company know about the other car as always say no other cars lol. So in theory when i bought the st i should have notified the megane insurers to reset that to zero as i was using the NCD on the st instead?

If you think about the NCB as being on the policy not the car, you've had one policy for 10 years without claiming against it so it has 10 years NCB on it. If you start another NEW policy it should start from 0 years and build up from there.

It's ok to have more than one policy each with there own NCB earned on that policy (I have three) but you can't use NCB earned one one policy to get a discount on a different one.

    Hope that makes sence.

Each car will build up it's own NCD.

I have 9 years NCD on my Vectra. If I was to buy a second car, that one would start with zero NCD and work up by one every year, while the Vectra would continue from 9 upwards every year.

But can it be transferred because obviously its cheaper to run a megane with zero ncd then an st. If I sold the megane then you wouldnt start the insurance on the st with zero ncd would ya.

Yes. Tell them you have swapped your Megane for an ST. Then tell the other insurer you have swapped the ST for a Megane
