I'm assuming you have the Z18XE engine. Standing at the front of the car, it's on the right hand side of the engine as you are looking at it. Sort of to the side of the cylinder head, just above the gearbox. If you flip up the plastic battery cover you should be able to see it ok.

The below pic was taken on my previous 1.8 '02 Vectra, looking from the passenger side onto the EGR. What are you looking to do to it, blank it, or clean it?

I had trouble with mine, and a right good clean with carb cleaner and a stiff toothbrush certainly helped for a while. The car was struggling when cold, was spluttery and chuggy until it had driven a mile or two, then seemed pretty much okay. As soon as i cleaned the EGR the problem vanished. If you are going to take it off to either clean it or replace it, it might be worth popping into the dealers and getting a new gasket for it first. They are just a sort of thin metal plate with some form of coating on it, that gets sandwiched between the EGR and the manifold that it bolts down on to.

Alternatively, you could just blank it off and forget about it. I believe Vauxhall deleted them from later 1.8s anyway. You can pick up blanking plates on ebay for a couple of quid. Think this is the right one, but check the exact shape if you fancy buying one:

If you fit one of these, you can then just secure the EGR somewhere nearby and leave it connected, and that way you won't get any warning lights. I had one fitted to my old Vectra for a while after the EGR finally packed in, and seemed to work fine.

Take it yours must be a slightly later model than the OP's? I think they were only fitted to the petrol 1.8 for a year or two, then they phased them out.

Blanking plate would certainly be cheaper than a replacement EGR, that would be my thoughts.
