Default Gear link or box issue

Been about a week now and have just figured the issue just need a soloution.
Mt gear stick does not return to centre.
I have noticed it was difficult at first to get into 3rd frm 5th or 4th and kept ending up in 5th, or 2nd to 5th.
Now I understand why because I would just push it up and it was not in the correct place.
Is this just linkege/spring or something like that or gearbox issues??
    Thanks

This happened to me last week, if you look under your battery tray area you should see 2 cables that attached to the top of the gear box, you will hopefully see that the cable sits in a like half moon shape, if like mine all that's happened it that it's fallen out of the half moon.

It's really hard to explain but what your describing is exactly what mine was like.

you need to find both those cable and follow them back, they should BOTH be fixed in position and not loose.

If you get stuck PM me your number.

NOTE, this is for the F40 box.
