YES!! unless the garage made her aware the car had a problem starting she is entitled to either a repair or refund under the sale of good act as unfit for purpose and all that, tell her to threaten Trading Standards to the garage if they value reputation they will come around nice n'quick to make it right.

On the other hand a Renault,,, shame on her

My daughter bought a 54 plate astra.
She had trouble with it, if you buy a car from a trader you get either 28 or 30 day (not sure which) warranty by law.
The problem was a new ecu was needed for the astra, the trader paid towards the new part.
I did need to go and see him tho!!!
I'd go and see them and tell em about the warranty.

Phone your local Trading Standard Office - they're very helpful in situations like this and will let you know what you need to do next.

Definitely refer it to Trading Standards because I think the mandatory 3 month warranty only covers 'major' components; but as someone said above, the 'Fit for Purpose' clause may come into play as the car failed so soon after she got it. T/S will probably be able to give her enough ammunition to scare the Trader into sorting it.
