what's the difference???

Following on from my current problem what's the difference between a 2.2 direct engine and a 2.2 non direct engine?? Thanks.

Sorry to add to this on both engines are the alternator the same ??

The 2.2 non-direct has the fuel injectors spraying fuel in before the valves. On the 2.2 direct, they spray directly into the cylinders. This requires much more expensive injectors as they have to cope with the heat and pressure of the combustion, but allows a much better control of fuel mixing leading to better economy and more power. Direct injection engines started appearing in the late 1990s and are gradually replacing indirect injection ones. Wikipedia no doubt has some good information on indirect and direct injection.

Both the Z22SE (indirect) and Z22YH (direct) are basically the same engine, apart from the difference in fuel injection system and heads.
