Figured out why my Hid H3 Fogs strobe.

My 35w H3 6K Hid bulbs Strobe. They are not leds as some seem to think though



Well had a good afternoon swapping cancellers, ballasts and bulbs around for a bit of fault finding.

Well after swapping all bits over in different variations I found that as Damo77 said its the type of ballast im using,

I have two types, 3 of one type and a 1 of a different type.

They are all 35w

Sods law the single ballast is fine with the H3 Hid bulbs. No strobing whatsoever,

However all three other ballasts create a stobing effect on these H3 Hid Bulbs,

I might add that all ballasts are fine with my H7 Dipped Beam Hid Bulbs.

I also moved the non strobing ballast onto the fog light to keep it away from the damp. It was screwed on the bottom plastic lip of the front bumper before.

So im on the hunt for a specific ballast. Will post up a wanted thread later.

I have 2 spare ballasts like that, one of them is faulty but the other works, i have cancellers also, PM if you want them..

I've got exactly the same problem, I bought a relatively cheap 35w H7 HID kit that worked without issue on my dipped lights, I then swapped the ballasts for some 55W China made (aren't they all?) el cheapo ballasts and kept the 4300k bulbs which worked fine with the engine off but needed a set of cancellers to work with it running.

I've been using them for a few weeks with no issue so today I managed to get the new H3's I'd bought along with the 35w ballasts from the dipped beams fitted in the fogs.

Then the fun starts. The H3's started strobing along with my LED side-lights, doing a great impression of a race pace car, just as your video, with both the engine off and it running. A quick check with the cancellers off the dipped system soon stopped the strobing... until I started the engine again. lol

So, any advice on the type of ballasts I'll need would be appreciated. I'm assuming it'll be the non-cheapskate CANBus friendly jobbies?

Totally off topic question, but why have you got your vehicle reg written on the rear side of the bumper?
