    Default Aftermarket Stereo wiring question

    Hi,

Just had a go at connecting the new stereo, however there is no power getting to it. I am using the correct adaptor (i think).

I think the problem is that there is not enough power getting to the stereo, so I have tried finding another 12v feed from the GM loom but theres nothing.

I have read on other posts that other users have tapped into the cig lighter wire or the ignition feed. To be honest, I don't fancy doing that as I am not a competent person!

The only way I have power to the stereo is to piggy back two wires in the same 12v feed from the GM loom.

My question is; is this safe, or am I going to blow something up?

    Thanks in advance.

When you say no power have you tried swapping the permanent and ignition lives around or tried a multimeter on the plug to test for a live

Tried this and it still didn't work. Is there any reason why I cannot solder both connections to go through the single 12v feed (red cable on the GM loom)

    Cheers

The adapter harness sometimes has bullet connections on the 2 lives so you can swap them around

Aye, well tried swapping them but it made no difference (obviously I made sure I had the ignition on!)

I'm not to bothered about having to switch off/on the stereo myself, so would my solution in my last comment be okay? Oh are we looking at a major no-no.

Thanks for all help so far.

you could but it wouldnt be a good idea if you left the stereo on you would drain battery if its a permenant live and an ignition live would loose settings when the ignition is off. What year is your car ? I just fitted a sony to mine cause i had to charge the battery and didnt have the sereo code. All i needed to do was swap the yellow and red wires round the keep the radio settings. I have a 2005 vec c 1.8 ls
