Default 1.9 cdti stiff gear lever and cant select gears

Hey guys, was following this thread like a hawk http://www.vectra-c.com/forum/showth...-Stiff-1-9cdti
and now mine has become just about unusable. My gear change has always been stiff left to right in neutral and wouldnt self centre but over the last two days its got really really bad and can take 15 attempts to get 1st gear. The above thread mentioned a gear box turret and pins? I know theyre going to be one of the many gear linkages below the battery tray but could someone please tell me which piece is the turret and which lingages to remove and lube?? Pics and a ladybird book guide appreciated!

If you push the gear lever over to the left or right in neutral, does it remain there or does it spring back?

Sounds like the mechanism itself just needs lubrication
Is it overdue a service, or was it overlooked?
Easy enough to lubricate all the linkages, I usually mention it at each second service

i bought the car with high miles and "lost service history" although it looks to have been very well taken care of. I saw plenty of ball/socket style gear linkages when i was doing the thermostat. Is it these which I should be popping off and greasing?

You shouldn't need to pop them off, just rotate, apply grease, then rotate to lubricate fully
It is very common for the gear lever itself requiring lubrication, as above if it is not lubricated by the second service it is quite obvious (and some people report it as notchy)

    Hi there,

It was me that started the thread that you have quoted. Mine was exactly the same and getting to the point where it was difficult to find gears. I posted an update in that thread to say that I got the problem sorted. All I had to do was apply some WD40 then add some normal lubrication oil.

If you remove the battery and the battery tray you will see the gear selector very clearly. The two cables just pop off and you will see that it is the up and down movement of the selector that causes the stiffness. Oil this part and you should be sorted. I didnt have to remove the selector from the gear box at all. If this doesnt work you will need to carry out the repair using the kit in the ebay link.
