    Default Another DPF Thread

Hi I know there are some threads on DPFs but I just wanted a bit of clarity if possible?

Ive been getting a smell of burning diesel/ more like paraffin in the cab occasionally and when I am coming to a standstill the car is juddering badly and the revs bouncing. Is the DPF trying to regenerate? I've no lights on the dash and no smoke from the back. The smell is so potent I have to open the window. It happens a day after I fill up with diesel usually.

    I have a 1.9cdti 150 auto vectra c 07 plate

    cheers guys

Sounds like it, take the car out for a blast up the motorway and see if that clears the symptoms - ie let the DPF perform a regen. If there is someone local to you with Vaux com maybe they can do a forced regen for you possibly. Ultimately get the DPF mapped out and removed.

Thanks for that. It's just the no lights, no smoke and I meant to mention no fault codes that's throwing me.

You shouldn't get a diesel smell with a functioning DPF, even during regen, unless something is faulty. But without hooking up an opcom or tech2 whilst it is misbehaving I don't really know what's going on here.

The only time I've encountered a diesel smell and rough running was when the return pipe from the injectors to the pressure regulator or whatever it is was leaking. But that doesn't explain why it only occurs a day or so after a refuelling.

Ye it's a strange one. It's now occurring more regularly, 3 times yesterday. Possibility of a stuck EGR valve?

I had problems with my EGR Valve, I unplugged mine and was running much better, could be worth a try.

How much truth is in this?

Why have so many people had their EGR's mapped out if this is the case?

Are there any known issues with the turbo?

Actually it would run cooler with the EGR valve blanked BUT but I would imagine it running cooler means the regen would be incomplete or not effective. . The EGR valve on a diesel raises temperatures as it causes the mixture to run rich. Petrols run hotter the leaner the mixture, diesel run hotter the richer the mixture.
