    Default Quick Hid question

Hey guys, I have ordered these 4300k from Hid's Direct but won't be dispatched until after the holidays (4th Jan 2013) so just want to get some knowledge before they arrive.

    http://www.hids-direct.co.uk/h7-new-...-kit-slim-35w/

They will be going into a Pre-facelift 2002 Vec C SRi 2.2 DTi which I think is half Canbus. I was wondering will I still have to get resistors and relays for these or is this setup a thing of the past due to more up to date ballasts? Plus will the light bulb itself just clip into my existing holders? Tried to call Hids Direct today to get more info but there is no one there until the 4th Jan. Should have read the notice about the holidays, too busy busting my arse getting them ordered....lol

Had enough of the dim stock lights and trying all the different bulbs, as ya do and getting nowhere. I'm not too worried about the m.o.t as I will just disconnect them if I get a fail.

    Cheers

99.9% you will need Cancellers(think thats what you mean when you say resistors and relays). Or even better just get someone with tech2 or Opcom to activate the Xenon setting in the UEC for you. Your existing clips will need cut to fit over the bulbs, it can be done without cutting them but you run the risk of ripping the rubber seal. Check the how2, sure it shows you how to cut them.

It'll be a straight fit. No cancellers or such, ideally activate xenon setting via tech2-opcom,

Be prepared to take bumper off to get better access to fit ballasts on secure area, ideally under headlights so its not very revealing making it neat and tidy.

Thats all, enjoy fitting them on ;-)

Cheers Daz, thing is the only How 2 that I can find for the Pre-facelift model doesn't show any photos plus this is the one that says you need 0.3ohm resistors, capacitors and 5 pin relays although this was written in 2005….lol

I think the one I bought comes with anti flicker capacitors shown in the photo on Hids Direct, well I gather that’s what they are. Just hope this isn't gonna be a messing around match to get them fitted, was hoping the bulbs just clipped in the same as the stock one and just cut a hole in the blub cover.

P.S. Didn't know I had to get tech 2 activated in my model, that's gonna be a mission as I don't know anyone that has one.

Why are so many people afraid of taking the bumper off, when it's so easy to do?

Same kit as me and u need no cancellers and don't need to activate them. I removed the lamps to fit mine as I wanted them to look factory so drilled the bottom of the lamp not the cap. Your choice? Basically remove the metal clips off the power socket and cut the side so it will fit over the wires then twist the bulb and clip into place. Mount balast where you want it plug it in and test them. Leave on for ten mins first time you use them to burn the bulbs in as bulb life will be improved if burnt in well on first use. Best mod ever on a Vec c

It's no "biggie" fella, only a "couple" of screws, some guys have even found that their bumper is flexible enough to allow them to drop it enough just by removing the couple of screws in the wheel arches. After that it's plain sailing.
It seems to me that with these canbus/halfcan cars that a code reader (under £20) is almost an "essential" part of your toolkit, and if you get the right kind, then it will also sort lots of other issues for you as well and pay for itself the first time you use it.

I know how to take the bumper of mate, problem is I don't have a garage and the weather is crap so the prospect of laying on the ground when it's ****ing down doesn't make it the most exciting job in the world. The only software and hardware I have for the car is VauxCheck and all it does is read and clear code and that about it. But reading your replies has sort of cheered me up a bit
