Default 1.9cdti auto estate 4th gear clunk

    Hi.

I was hoping for some advice with my car.

Its developed a clunk in 4th, its the automatic gearbox.

basically at 60-70 you press the accelerator, its goes into 4th but with a jerk?? you can also get it under load with manual select at 50mph.

Is the gearbox terminal? If anyone has any ideas it'd be very much appreciated.

    thanks

Im not a mechanic so took it to a local garage, he said he used 4 litres, i believe some of that was used to flush the gearbox out first.

He said the old oil was brown and smelt quite bad.

Could the amount of oil effect the clunk?

appreciate you taking an interest on this

Flushing the torque converter is the hardest part in situ.
    ^ ^ ^ ^
Up to 10 litres might be needed.

    AF33 5 speed gearbox uses 4 litres VX part# 93160393

    AF40 6 speed gearbox uses 4 litres VX part# 93165147

The valve blocks are prone to wear but a Tech 2 gearbox scan might reveal something else.

    Failing that........

Take it to a automatic gear box specialist and get them to check it out.
