Default Intermintant wipers not working help please

Hi, Help please. I have an 03 Signum, 2.0T Elegance. I don't appear to have a rain sensor. But my intermintant wheel is not working. I roll it to the left nothing happens, then when I roll it to the right it swipes once for every click and thats it.

    A little advice please.

Are you sure you don't have a rain sensor? Firstly an Elegance should have it, and secondly the behaviour (one wipe when moving the wheel a click to the right) is what you'd expect from the rain sensitive wiper system. Look where the rear view mirror is on the outside of the windscreen, that's where the sensor is. Try putting the wipers on the most sensitive setting (fully to the right) and spraying the area with water. It could be that your sensor has failed or is dirty, or the loom is broken, and it's not detecting rain. Mine didn't work after I had a new windscreen fitted - the fitter had used too much silicone oil when refitting the sensor and it wasn't very sensitive. A little wipe with cotton buds to remove the excess and it's been spot on ever since.

I have seen other posts in regards to this and seen photos of screens with rain sensors. It's a dark patch with a small square window in the middle. Mine is a plain screen and no sensor. Now starting to think it may have been removed when a screen was replaced before I purched the car.
    Confused.

that spec of car should have the rain sensor & the auto dim mirror as already said , so if these are not present then maybe someone has had a windscreen replaced with the cheaper option .

Yes, it could well be that they fitted the wrong screen. Do you have the auto dimming rear view mirror? Maybe take off the interior light and see if you can see the loom that should go to the mirror and the rain sensor. The rain sensor one has 'regensensor' on it near the end. I wonder if the rain sensor is still connected, but chucked up in the roof lining.

If the sensor is disconnected, the wipers revert back to standard intermittent operation - ie the positions of the wheel on the stalk control the time between wipes.

Brill sounds good I do have the auto dimming rear view mirror. Maybe the dullard who replaced my windscreen has put the sensor into the roof lining. There looks like there is a clip for the sensor. I will have a look at it in the morning.

Is this a new fault or has the intermittant never worked ?
There is a known problem with Vectra wipers behaving strangely in freezing conditions - some sort of bad earth in the motor unit.
