    Cool MOT Time

Just dropped the car off for it's MOT.

Waiting patiently for that call to say it's passed

Only issue was a slight rattle from the rear pads that disappeared when braking.......

One of my advisories is "004 Play in steering rack inner joint(s)"

Does this mean I'll need new tie-rods?

Sounds like the inner track rod ends Tony. I changed them on my last Vec, bit of a pig to do, but still a DIY job. You can just do the ends, no need for whole rods.

Can't fine inner track rod end on Euro Car Parts. Just full tie rod but not sure if it has the inner joint already? LINK

That is just the inner track end. The end with the large knuckle joint bit screws into your steering rack and is what is covered by the gaitor. The threaded part at the other end then screws into the the existing track rod. Have a look on eBay too Tony, loads on there.

Cheaper alternative to the tool already mentioned is what I used, which was a 32/36mm viscous fan spanner. Look on eBay for item number 400320943554. Not as good an option admittedly, but would save you a few quid if need be.
