Cruise control problem

My cruise control has packed in. I tried using it today and it won't switch on. The manual says that when the ignition it turned on, The cc lights up on the dash. It's not doing that now, altho I never noticed before when it was working.
Any ideas as to why it's suddenly stopped working? The switch has always been really good so I don't think it's that.

as with most things there are a couple of things to look at.

1. switch
2. fuse
3. Spring assy attached to the clutch (most common)

dont think ive seen the cc light up on the dash on start up only comes on when you switch the cc on..
but faults are normallt the contacts on the stalk or as mentioned above many many threads on this subject fella

Cheers for the help.. Where abouts is the switch as I cleaned the car out last week and pushed the mat right up under the pedals. Is it likely I've knocked it?

what fuse is it.. I've checked the manual and can't see what one it corresponds to.

ill have a look at some of the threads about it tho later when I'm home.

Had you used the brakes before using it? You need to have used the brakes before it will engage.

The green light only comes on when cc is switched on

Best to clean the stalk first

The contacts get dirty

That was the problem with mine means it hadn't had much use

I got back in the car last night and on the way back home it worked first time. So I'm thinking there was/is a loose connection somewhere.

Check the switches on the stalk as people have said above. There are hundreds of posts on the subject of intermittent cruise control on here, and in most cases it's down to the stalk contacts being bent or dirty. The warning light does not come on at ignition turn on, I'm not sure where you got that from as it doesn't say it in either the pre-facelift or post-facelift manual (I've got both in front of me here), so don't worry about that not happening - it's normal You do need to have braked at least once after moving the car after starting, and it won't engage below 20mph.

mines started this last year its not been working for a while now, but when i was trying to fix it i bent one of the pins slightly so ive tryed to soilder the contacts to make it higher, it did work for a while but its that bent pin thats causing it to malfunstion again, very frustating really. but i would give the contacts a slight sand with wet and dry but make sure its dry, if that doesnt work put a bit of soilder on each contact that should work, failing that get a new stallk from vx think there about 30 quid, if that dont work ure looking at a new CIM. to get the stalk out u need a paper clip a quite thick one, there is a small hole going between the stalk and CIM push it in there and pull the stalk out.
