    Default Tyres....

    Hi all,

Having now owned my vectra c for 6 weeks now, there is only 1 point that makes me nervous with the car..... grip.

I'm not a boy racer but I'm also not a miss daisy driver.

With no effort at all, she will wheel spin and lose traction far too easily....wet or dry.

The worst part....in the wet she makes me very very uncomfortable. I've never driven a car that is so light on the front end and able to lose grip and slide so easily

I've checked the tyre pressures and they are fine. The tyres currently fitted are Marangoni and have plenty of tread.

It get's so bad that on an open A road with wet or light surface water, I'd rather not go over 45/50mph as I know she will find a ditch pretty ****** quick!!

I reckon it's the tyres, but open to other ideas and suggestions, ie which tyres are recommended

    TIA

Tyres are a very personal matter and does get dozens of opinions on each post asking advice. But which engine do you have and is the car manual or auto.
    Try a site like www.tyrereviews.co.uk

I have had several brands from the oem Goodyear NCT5 to Pirelli P7, Nexen N3000, Avon ZZ5 and Avon ZV3. Neuton NT5000 Currently I have Nexen N8000 and these are possibly as good as I have experienced on the Vectra.
Very quiet, very smooth no harshness, amazing grip wet and dry even through standing water such as we have had with all this rain. They are excellent value for money too which makes them all the better.

I am sad the Marangoni are letting you down they usually get good solid results and opinions.

my next check would be tracking , if the wheels aren't pointing where they should then grip is gonna be a lot less .

I have the 2.2 Elite Auto.

It just feels very very light on the front end as if I have 2 tonne being carried in the boot.

I wondered maybe if the tyres were too "hard"?? I'm no expert in tyres etc, but have never experienced a drive like this before in 23 years.

Crap tyres, Get a set of 4 premium tyres fitted and get a 4 wheel alignment and it should handle a lot better.

i had this when i got my gsi , cheapo unmatched tyres on the front
felt like i was sliding out the lane on a wet motorway at 70 mph , very scary

bought a brand new matched pair , barums , cannot fault them , went to 50 profile
replaced the rear arms , and front droplinks , did the tracking , front and back !

one step at a time !

It might be worthwhile considering having a suspension check, especially shockers and front end bushes
