Default Oil filter housing 1.9 CDTI

I've always done the oil & filter changes on my cars & must have removed a hundred oil filters in my time but I met my match getting this B£$%%"y thing off.

I jacked the car up & put on 2 axle stands at the front. Dropped the cover off, got a 32mm socket on the plastic filter housing but there was no room to move the ratchet. I used one of those flexible adaptors & eventually heaved it loose. It must have taken me a good hour to get it to move. I couldn't get the socket & ratchet into a position where I could give it a good hard pull.

I greased the thread of the housing when I put it back & tried not to do it up very tight to give myself an easier time when I next change the oil.

    Is there an easier way?

I use the ratchet from the top of the engine to undo it. A bit more room plus it's a lot more comfortable

Piece of cake from the top. Pop the coolant expansion tank out the bracket and you can get your arm in easy

Shallow socket and extra long ratchet. Is money well spent.
