    Default Christmas ruined

So I'm 19 and decided to treat myself to a 2.2 signum (had 1.8 vectra before) after a lot of hard work saving for the insurance. I have been driving it around fine until yesterday I came to start it. The car wouldn't start so today I got my local mechanic round who has said the cam chain has slipped and destroyed the engine. I am we'll and truly naffed of. So what I'm asking is what the way to go now. Is it worth trying to get a new engine fitted which will cost around 1100 or just sell it?

sorry to hear your plight fella. How bad is the damage? You could maybe look at getting things/components replaced depending on the amount of damage!

I'm not to sure. When the mechanic turned it over it made a loins band and then started turner over really fast so I would say its destroyed atleast 2 pistons. I'm going to take the head off in the next week to see the damage for myself.

depends which engine , if its the non direct (Z22SE ) then the same engine from a vectra B will go in with little or no modification .
can pick a decent one up now for about 350 quid , but make sure you fit a full new chain kit to it before fitting .

It's the 2.2 direct and I'm struggling to find a new engine. They all have really high mileage.

Best get the head off as the possibility of it being head damage is quite good, the pistons are generally strong enough that the bottom end will survive. Head will possibly have bent some valves if the rockers didn't shear first as a survival design feature.

probably gonna need an engine , once saw a signum 2.2 direct that had chain failure & it had smashed a piston as well , not nice at all .

The last 2 I've done haven't caused any damage, get the chain replaced first, you will probably be fine
