Default Service: Why only 1 year 'G' mode

Can anyone tell me why my car was serviced and marked to come back in one year or 20,000. This means I am in mode 'G' not 'N'. The car was doing big miles but still why not in mode 'N'

    TIS quote:
Owing to the individual driving profiles, it may be necessary to program e.g. high-mileage drivers to ECOService (checklist "G") during the first service.

Well it is not on its first service so why is it still in this mode. Also can I ask them to make it two years not one.

I believe this is based on the initial service interval

For example, I drive 40K miles a year
As a result my previous Vectra B was in for a service every 3 months, so at the second service received a "high mileage" service, and did so from there on

My current Vectra C is due services at 2 years / 30K mile intervals
However, it has done 5000 miles in the short time I have had it (2 months)
In the three years I am going to own it, it should receive 7 services which will be three this year and then two on each of the following two years
This should see it put on to "high mileage" servicing when it comes in for its second service this year

Surely this is the point of having 20,000 / 2 years servicing (petrol example). So either it is done on a mileage basis (irrespective of time) OR on a time basis (irrespective of mileage).

It would seem that VX are changing the servicing rules as they see fit. Extra revenue??? I see that TIS doesn't give any reasons for the reprogramming. I'm always suspicious of this approach, ie not saying why it is necessary. I'm an intelligent, reasonable person, I can handle information.

Mine gets 'done' when the light comes on, VX warranty this service schedule, so that's good enough for me.

Same here, when the light comes on it gets serviced. Last one was at 18kmiles - one year since the service before.

This is my point, why does it need to have a service in the next month or so when it has only done 8K since the last one.

So why when the cars are on high mileage do they want it back in 12months, it is gonna do the miles in 6,7,8 months.

    No logic just dollar

Have a look here - one of many threads on the subject (just do a search for ECOService or ECOFlex).

All cars come from the factory on ECOFlex which is max of 20,000miles/two years or 30,000 for diesels. This was up until they stopped doing ECOFlex as an option - I think around 2005. Some dealers would immediately change them to ECOService (12 months/20,000 miles) so that they were guaranteed to see them at least once a year and obviously get their servicing costs from you.

If you're on Schedule G (ECOService) and want it to be on Schedule N (ECOFlex) then the dealer can Tech 2 it back to that.

My car came as ECOService from the supplying dealer (ex-demonstrator)and I asked my local dealer to change it back to ECOFlex as that was my preference - although I still do an interim oil/filter change at the 10,000 mid-point.

Easy way to check if the car is set to ECOFlex or not is with the ignition off, press the odometer reset button and if a mileage comes up then you are on ECOFlex.

Been looking in the service book and the car has only had 2 pollen filters & 2 fuel filters in 6 services as nothing else is ticked 'done'. No spark plugs, cam chain or tensioners checks or changed.

Oil has been 5-30 but they haven't ticked which type. Am I correct in saying that it might have not been using the super synthetic which I was told to buy to top it up. So I have been sticking the £100 a litre stuff in which might not mix well with the 'G' service oil.

What is the point of a service?
