EGR Re-Mapping Out

Other than the re-map is there anything else that needs to be done, I will not be taking the DPF out?

Can it stay in place, it currently has a blanking plate with 3 6mm holes drilled in it.?

Once it's mapped out that's it mate - you just need to fit a complete blank so no crap gets in, but you can't remove the valve completely as the system still needs to know it's there, it just doesn't open it...

Will the car still do a re-gen of the DPF?

I don't see why not - I've no idea if the EGR is involved in the DPF cycle software but I don't see why it would be...

You'll find that if you blank/partially blank, or even have a sticky egr valve, your DPF will fill up quicker. It's not recommended to anything to block the egr off unless you've removed the DPF and removed its function from the ECU.

Actually thats not quite true;

With faulty EGR valve (e.g. sticking open) there may be more soot emission due to exhaust gas being recirculated when it shouldn't be (e.g. at full throttle) resulting in an oxygen-depleted intake charge which will cause more soot and hence will fill the DPF more quickly.

With fully disabled/blanked EGR, there will be LESS soot emission because there is more oxygen in the intake charge. EGR's only purpose is to slow down the burn rate which reduces the peak combustion temperature and hence NOx emissions.

I've been running with EGR disabled but DPF still working for some time now without any problem - it has regenerated a couple of times without issue. If anything it seems to be going further between regens. I'm planning to remove the DPF in the spring though...

Because it's only there as an emissions regulations device, and was fitted because some of the engine/model combinations didn't meet the required levels, ie estates, automatics and Signums. You can find a manual Vectra which doesn't have one fitted but is the same age and engine and gets in under the required level to meet Euro 4 emissions. This alone proves it's just for that purpose, and they weren't fitted to actually do anything useful. It just wastes fuel and causes problems, nothing else.

exactly - it reduces performance and fuel economy generally, due to being a restriction.to gas flow on the exhaust. then to add insult to injury the engine wastes approximately half a gallon of fuel every 500-1000 miles to create enough heat to burn off the collected soot.
