Default Spare Wheel == Size Question .

    My Renault Grand Scenic
    ( even though , i'm sure it is just a big Megane = L.O.L. )

has one of those cannister jobs for flat tyres ,

So i am on the lookout for a real spare wheel

and i have found a brand new steel one for £ 25 .

    My question ...

    My tyres are ... 205 / 60 / 16

    and the spare wheel i have found is ... 205 / 55 / 16 .

As a tempory spare would the difference of 5 in the middle number make any difference ?

Also , where are my jack / wheel brace kept ?

it's a 7 seat , so they aren't under the boot or in the side cupboards .

    Thanks .

A spare wheel was a cost optional extra on this model
You then raise the rear seat to access the retaining strap
The accessory kit is then kept within the remaining space

    Thanks for the reply ,

but what about the 5 difference in the 2 different wheels .

Even if i have no spare as an option at the factory , i still need to know where the jack & wheel brace is incase i need to change a bald tyre .

    Many thanks .

    * EDIT *

just read your comment , so even if i don't have a factory spare ( and have a cannistor ) the wheel tools / jack are still under the back seats ....... are they ?

I doubt you have a jack in the car if it didn't come with a spare wheel.

The Renault ones are gash anyway, I bent one trying to remove a wheel on a mates Scenic, its a folding one, complete waste of time.

    That's a bit rubbish for D.I.Y. tyre / wheel changers .

Renault can't think that just because you have a cannistor that you never in the future would like to take your own wheel off to do some d.i.y work on brakes or a worn out tyre .

It's not all about punctures that only need to be filled up with a can .

The profile figure is the percentage of the width (alot of people think it's a mm dimension)

So in your case the original wheel 60% of 205.

Therefore the difference between the two is 20mm on the total diameter.

When fitted to the front axle, your car will pull to the side your spare wheel is fitted.

That wheel and tyre will be more than adequate for a spare regardless of the small difference in wall height as it will only be a get you home wheel anyway and you could always buy another tyre if it bothers you that much, regarding the spare, weren't they mounted underneath on the grand scenic ? If so has yours got a cage/winch for the spare ? If not can you actually fit a full size spare in the car ?
