Default Number plate convenience light (when unlocking car)

    Hi,

My Vectra has the usual feature where the number plate lights come on when the car is unlocked by remote.
I'm looking to piggyback the power feed that is active when the car is unlocked, to power additional lights such as some LEDs I could mount in the front bumper.

What I want to know is, where the best place is to pick up this feed? Is there something around the fuse box, or under the dashboard I can use, or do I need to run a wire from the rear of the car?
I have spotted a few threads with no definative answer, so I will put all my findings in here with a few photos for future reference

    Cheers.

I had the exact same thought last night, I thought it was weird how the rear plate light lit up but nothing at the front.

You're going to have a problem if you piggy back off the number plate lights as they're on when you're driving (when you have your lights turned on), so would be your front courtesy lights!

It's because it's a courtesy light which lights up the ground for you to see what you might be about to stand in. eg, puddle, mud, pothole, doggy whoopie do do, etc.
