Default p0337 fault code crank sensor position a low>

After an intercooler pipe fell off new year I had a "ding" Ding ding noise from engine. it's been popping from exhausts on idle if you blip throttle pedel.
Vx had it 4 times said couldn't find a fault.
The car "hunts" on idle and after leaving it running for five minutes or even after a run once engine is turned off the car sit's their and cooks, go back to the car after say 5 minutes the temp gauge will be at 3/4 even if it was at 1/2 or 1/4 hot.

Finalilly after taking it on a long run to devon they had car in monday fault code P0337 Sintra code 00 is locked into ecu?

Garage machanic is baffed as didn't have engine management light up?
Faults been logged with Vx and they are also at a loss.
The garage has checked fan, sensors crank markers, all o.k.

Bit worried that maybe bsr ppc caused damage, don't think so but garage said for me to drive it for a week then bring it back to prove a point?
Wouldn't say what the point is though?

    Anybody got any ideas.

I think ecu could be f**ked as popping/backfire oni dles always their but the fan works intermitantly.

    Help.
