It's called the expansion tank the high point in the system and is an auto bleed device
On your house radiator the flow and return pipes are at the bottom so air can sit at the top(the highest point), on the Vec it cant and always returns to the header. If you go to a large commercial building you may well find that the flow and return pipes on radiators are at the top, this saves someone having to bleed 300 radiators.
Weird cos i'm a plumber, water inlet at bottom and outlet at bottom still need to bleed rads, same for cooler rad on car both bottom. Surely it should be a bleed valve as air stays at top making it work less effect?

From memory, a car heater system is high pressurised, whereas a home system is not (pump driven only)
