Underneath the offside headlamp, so it's a front bumper off job
Very rare for the level to drop below the minimum
I am now on my fourth Power Steering Pump within the last 18 months

What makes you think the level is low?

It's been suggested to me that the fluid might be low (first thing to check) although i have no warning symbol. Basically my steering is groaning when steering left to right. I don't want the fluid to run dry so i thought it would be worth the check. Bit of a swine to get to though it seems. I'm wondering if the groaning/ creaking has anything to do with the strut tops that have just been tightened up?

Think mine might need a top up too? Steering on my 2.2 is a lot heavier then the CDTI...

Isnt it under the drivers headlight? Bumper off jobbie...

The Power Steering Pump is naturally noisey
However, in colder weather it is even noisier
It won't run dry, the reservior is enormous
The earlier version also has a level warning indicator, so that will appear first

Remember, the handbook advises NOT to turn the steering wheel when the car is not moving, this damages the electric motor in the Power Steering Pump

The original Power Steering Pump failed this time last year
When switching off one night the warning light briefly appeared
The following night it did the same, but for longer
The next day the pump failed to switch on
The replacement pump lasted just two days, and it's been a saga ever since...
I personally think the rack itself had failed

On some models it's behind the engine, on top of the steering rack. It is on my preface 2004 1.8 for example. It's not designed to need topping up, hence the awkward location. It's only meant to need it every 80,000 miles or so. And you must use the proper green GM fluid. Anything else will damage the seals.

Service Plan G clearly shows that the level does not need to be checked on the Vectra C, all engines
However, Point 13 shows that the operation must be checked at each service, and the system checked for leaks
