    Default Another creaking suspension thread

I get creaking noises (like a frog croaking) from both the front and back of the car whan going over speed bumps.

There are a number of speed bumps at work (20mph zone) and if I go over them at 10mph the car is silent increase the speed to between 10 and 20 and the creaking occurs, seems to be both front and back.

Seems to be mostly when it's damp or wet.

    These have been replaced recently:

Bilstein B4 dampers front and rear
VX Spings front (with VX spring sleeves)
    Top mount bearings (both sides)
    Front drop links (both sides)
Rear Upper control arms (both sides)

I am pretty sure the rad mounts are the newer rubber type and not springs but not checked as I don't know where to look for them??

    What else is left?

I have the same issue and have had for ages - at least two years. I think it is the front and rear anti-roll bar clamp bushes, which are something like £6 a pair on eBay. Mine is linked to a metallic 'clatter' - something between a clunk and a click. It is audible whenever the car is moving and speed seems to have no effect on the volume or nature of the sound. I think it is the anti-roll bars clattering in the mountings. I'm going to replace mine in the new year and see if I can't eliminate that issue. Then I'll do my mounts and bearings and, if I can afford them, my shock absorbers and strut inserts too. Paul

I guess a good dose of WD40 on the ARB bushes should show if it's these that are making the noise?

Are the front ARB bushes easy to get (for applying WD40) at without removing any parts/jacking the car up?

Yes they are. I might give that a go first but I don't think it will help with the clattering - only the graunching. Paul

Cool, I'll keep a look out for Plus Gas.

WD40 will hopefully do the job for diagnosis purposes, just might not last long.

Just an update to this thread.

I tried putting WD40 on the front bushes but it made no difference. I don't think I got enough in and around the bush to make any difference.

Anyway my favourite VX specialist replaced the front ARB bushes with new VX ones for only £30 and the car is silent!.
I keep driving over speed bumps because I can't get over how quiet it now is.
