    Default Thermostat or temp sensor

    Hi all
i'd like to pick your brains again, my temp gauge only moves when sitting in traffic or idling will hit just over 90 then the fan cuts in, but whilst driving it doesnt register at all but the heater is lovely and hot and gets hot rather quickly in the morning am i looking at thermostat temp sensor or something else.

If your gauge goes up in traffic and down when you start moving, you can bet on it being your thermostat. It will be stuck open letting the coolant through the radiator all the time, when you're in slow moving in traffic, the whole system will manage to heat up but as soon as you're moving and air is flowing through the radiator it will cool down and the temp gauge will drop (obviously if the thermostat was working as soon as it starts to cool, under 92 degrees (for a petrol) or whatever temp the diesels run at, the thermostat closes maintaining the correct running temp).

its your thermostat its broke if you type in thermostat in the search part there are loads of threads about peoples thermostats broken including mine

the threads start appearing when the cold weather comes

its a common fault on the vectra c

i had the same problem with the temp gauge not moving in the cold weather and thought it was just the gauge but as i changed the thermostat now the gauge sits on 86- 89 and the heating and fuel consumption have improved quite dramaticaly

mine started workin the otherday and now stopped again heaters are mint tho but the mpg is crap.. what should i be gettin out of a 2.2dti also the range is abit vauge on the fuel ? also the other day drivin along and the dash neidels went down and the battery light came on, pulled over to go to the shop and when i came back out
    it wouldnt start
so i opened the bonnet and slamed it after and it started
its happened twice now and it only happens when the temp gauge works
when the temp works the car plays up starting and when the gauge dont the car is fine
really weird anyone else had this problem
    is it a bad earth?
also still cant get the xenon auto correct light off the dash where is the rear sensor placed?
    thanks in advance :-)

I appreciate that I am responding to an old thread but having searched the forum for an answer to my thermostat problems they seem to have been covered in the various threads. I have experienced the normal warm up in traffic and the quick drop in temperature when driving on a faster road. Today I did around trip of 25 miles most of it on the A1 and averaged about 60mph. The thermostat behaved perfectly which left me baffled. Could this be a sticking thermostat? If so can it be unstuck or does it mean it requires replacing? It was replaced 2 and a half years ago when we had all that snow and it's been OK until last 2-3 months . Had it in to a local garage twice and they ran the car at idle until it reached 90 degrees and they said it was fine.. I tried to explain about the cool engine on faster roads but they said it was a common fault on Vectras. They didn't charge me anything but now I don't know what to do for the best. I have no problem replacing the thermostat if necessary but I'm not convinced it is. Very intermittent performance from the thermostat. Should I replace it or not? Any advice greatly appreciated. Thanks.
