    Default Police Sirens

Is it just me or do modern Police/Fire Engine sirens these days sound crap?

Was flicking through the channels on Sky this morning and there was an old Rover SD1 with its "Nee Naww" sirens racing through some streets somewhere.

Sounded so much better and attention grabbing than the modern day whoop whoop and wailing sounds.

I reckon it must be an age thing.

I beleive the newer sirens alter the sounds as it is designed to grab your attention more and also easier for you to work out where it is coming from??

The new sirens are directional and designed (as benson said) to draw your attention and be more aware of what direction they're coming from. I know a little bit about these things

More like were the 51st state of America, we always follow suite! Nee narrr was much more British. As for the directional thing, you could do the same with the nee narr tone with today's technology !!

At the moment one of the local radio stations plays an ad - where in the background there is a Police/Ambulance siren going - very confusing when your driving along and keep looking in the mirror expecting the blue lights

A local Fire & Rescue vehicle has had a recording of a siren installed
    How silly is that!

A car alarm is a siren...
However, once a vehicle is in motion or being driven only a single tone is permitted
