    Default Tyre Question....225/45 17's ...

Was talking to a guy on the phone at a local tyre fitting centre and mentioned about fitting two 225/45 17's to the car whilst leaving the other two standard NCT5's (215/50 17's) on the car. He said that was fine to do but the larger new tyres MUST go on the back else the car would be illegal Anyone else heard this?

nope.. as far as i'm aware of current regs, it doesn't matter what axle they are on, as long as they are both on the same axle..

........and if you put 225/45/17's on the front the larger tyre WILL be on the back if they are 215/50/17's

    215/50/17 diameter is 646.8mm
    225/45/17 diameter is 634.3mm

See HERE for tyre size calculator

same rules apply as far as i am aware... as long as the same size ( diameter, profile and width) are on the same axle it's fine..and the difference between 215's and 225's is minimal.. in fact i doubt anyone who didn't know would spot it.
