Default 1.8 petrol against 1.9 cdti

hi all. i currently have a 1.9 cdti 150bhp engine that is only returning 34mpg due to my short distances to work, i do 10,000 miles a year and now starting to get syptoms of dmf needed. will i be better of on a petrol vectra or should i stick with my cdti?

Not really, I get low 40s on my commute.. it is 20 miles though. It might be less over 10 miles though.

At the min i'm getting 29.2mpg doing 2.1miles to work. Thats with the air-con and that on to clear the windscreen. I only really do town driving and its always around 29-31mpg. I'm told by people on here and other people that they reckon you need to be doing 15k a year to get the benefit of buying a diesel etc. The 1.8 is VERY VERY slow.

id disagree with that the diesel would win off a start but in speed the petrol is the same my 1.8 is far from slow and i get about 28mpg driving round town and thats not going at all slow

140bhp from the 1.8 vvt. TBH its not that slow, they way some people go on you'd think it had 50 bhp.

140 standard an well i wouldnt benefit from a diesel costs more compared to petrol my daily commute is 7 mile so be constant problems with the dpf plus alm the problems that come with 1.9 diesels wouldnt entertain one mate as said 1.8 petrol is far from slow only from a start the 1.9 has more power due to its turbo take that aways its got nothing 1.9 in my opinion is just constant problems
