Default Milestone mileage! - Hit the 100,000

    Duncan-100000.jpg

Registered in June 2003, I bought it in May 2004 with 4,000 odd miles on the clock. Now owned it for 8.5 years and recently passed 100,000.

Never in my life have I owned a car for so long, or of this age, or this mileage!, but this car has just proved itself consistently over the years.

When our two boys came along, in 2008 and 2010, I didn't need to change cars as it took one, then two, IsoFix car seats with ease, and all the stuff you need for trips.

It excels for my work requirements (self-employed photographer) and with the back seats folded down flat I can get a massive amount of gear in including 9 foot wide background rolls, big step ladders, lights and everything else.

When we bought a trailer tent earlier this year, it tows that like you wouldn't know it's there!

So basically everything I've needed to do with the car over the years, it's just taken it all in it's stride. I know the car inside out, what it's had done to it, when/how it's been serviced (as I did most of it), along with all the mods/tuning/remapping etc. that has been done to it so I simply haven't seen any reason/need to go and change it! It's had the usual bits replaced over the years and the engine has been rock solid, even when remapped etc. One slight issue with the turbo once but was easily fixed by taking out and sending off to be serviced/refurbished.

It's just been an utterly superb car and when the time does come where it has to go I'll be very sad to see it go, and it may be that a newer Signum is what ends up replacing it! lol,

    Vehicle : vectra c 1.9cdti 120 estate

My 2004 1.9 (120) cdti Design estate is coming up to 95k - I paid £1600 for it with 78k - I've owned it for just over 2 years and had one or two minor problems and now if I dare say it - it's running better now than it has ever done and is a pleasure to own. I have been thinking of replacing it with a newer model - but can't find anything within my price range with this sort of mileage and in this condition - so I will be keeping it for a few more years unless I drop on something special to replace mine. At the moment in terms of depreciation, etc and with great fuel economy - it's cheap motoring and I love it. I don't usually get too attached to cars, as I buy and sell them all the time, but the Vectra is special and a great workhorse.

    Great engines D but I'm biased ;-)

That's a seriously long time to own a car, I've had mine for about 6 and like you I've had no trouble at all. I look back now wishing I bought a signum cause now having the family it seems like its far more versatile than my hatch.
What kind of TT did you buy, I've been looking at cabanon ones recently, just need to work out if we will use it enough to justify it..

There's a link in my post to the trailer tent details. It's a Conway Classic Trio 2003.

    Vehicle : Focus

    Trim : Titanium

    Engine : 1.6 TDCI

    Year : 62

    Mileage : 9K

    Default

Mine was registered in Dec 2003 and owned since May 2005. So 7 1/2 Years owned mine. Now on 118k bought with 24k.

Like yours Duncan its been a real gem of a car, and touch wood nothing has gone wrong. ( except bottom flywheel pulley broke)
Changed all the service items like you do, but I think its been down to careful driving, treating it with respect, don't thrash it about, I've changed the oil and filter every 5k since I've owned it.
So its had lots of oil changes!
Its still on its original battery , alternator & exhaust.
It still averages 50mpg on my commute to work all A roads. Will average 60mpg on motorway.

They are a great family car with loads of room, and its pulled my 1250cwt caravan around England without issue.

No plans of selling mine. Its too reliable.

The longest i have owned a car is 7 years and in that time it cost me service parts & tyres etc, this one i have had since 2010 and hope to keep it another 8 years at least, it had 5k on when i got it it's 58 plate and now just 27k.

Spending cash on cars has been happening too much in the last 8 years but now i just want to save it not spend it on cars and just drive this to it's death.!!

I think you have hit it on the head there Graham - as you say if you are sympathetic with an older car it will serve you well - I don't thrash mine or do racing starts, etc - I also 'over service' mine with 6 monthly oil and filter changes and a full service every 12months - I don't do a great mileage but the old girl deserves to be looked over.
