    Default Vectra estate for dogs?

We are buying a black lab pup in the NY, so me being me started looking around for suitable car to replace the hatch with. I have spotted a nice Vectra estate CDTi on the web that is calling my name! I know all the issues with this engine as I owned one years ago, but I'm also pulled towards the good economy off them over the turbo and obviously the added room.
My main Q is how many of you guys own a reasonable sized dog, and do you drive estates or is the hatchback adequate enough size wise to take a dog and a couple of kids? We do a lot of miles these days due to kids sport and my sports, but its the old adage; there is no cheaper car than one you own and know, yet I still look!!?
I have looked at Insignias but I'm still not 100% sure on the looks of them, and I would have to be dam sure if spending 15+k on one..

    Cheers guys..

I have a beagle, smaller than a lab of course, but her small crate fits quite easily in the back of my signum, so I'd imagine a full estate would easily take a bigger crate. IMO if you have a dog and kids you really need an estate size, for the convenience and versatility.

Since I got hit in the back I would never keep a dog in the back. I use a cage on the back seat, secured by the belt (I have a large Jack Russell)

What happens if someone banjos you from the side?? Exact same scenario, the dogs still going to be crashing against a cage isn't it?

Thanks for the responses guys. I was thinking estate due to the extra room but also use the luggage straps to secure the cage, plus still leaving a little room in the boot for other stuff etc?
The hatch could be doable but I would need a dog guard thus would render the rest of the boot useless would it not, cause can't see a lab cage fitting in a hatch boot??
    Cheers folks..

    Vehicle : vectra c 1.9cdti 120 estate

    Trim : design

I have an estate with a double dog cage in for my three dogs and its great - plus the rear door access is level with the floor so they can jump up and down into the car without there being a raised panel for them to get over as in some estates.

I have a black lab, i also have an estate, which he easily gets into, i dnt have a cage as its quite rare i transport him about, estate is a great tool, as opposed to the hatch where you would constantly be playing tetris to get people dogs and luggage. The estate can cope with more situations with ease

We have a black Lab and an Estate.. He has BUNDLES of room... He also fits OK in our ex hatch we had but the estate is by far more comfortable - especially for longer runs.

We have a boxer and an estate, we also have 3 kids 1 being a new born so you imagine all the extras I need lol and all I can say is that the vectra estate is the perfect car for me, we also manage a large dog crate, dog guard and 2 big suitcases. However we do now own a roof box for the little extras like buggies, sterilises, dog toys/food and anything like presents (xmas/birthdays) for when we travel back home to our patents 200 miles away.image.jpg
