    Default Driving Technique

    Hey all,

    I'm new to owning a Vecta, a 2004 1.9 cdti with 6 gears. I've never had a 6 speed car although I've owned many motorbikes with 6 gears

    I seem to changing gear all the time, there's not much of a rev range for each gear. Just me??

    The wife's never gonna cope with all the gears so am thinking of telling her to use 1-4 only. She'll only drive it around town, never likely to go over 40mpm. Good idea?

    Diesels dont have the rev range of a petrol car... If she doesnt take it above 40 then 5th is probably the furthest she'll get. LOL

    i usually only use 6th gear if going above 60mph the rest i use around town

    I've had quite a few diesels. It seems that they way this one is geared that the rev range is particularly small..I'm sure I'll get used to it. Last car was a Toyota Estima which was a diesel automatic with only 3 gears hence my left leg isn't used to the work LOL

    That'll be part of the reason you're not used to it then. 3 speed auto will have much longer ratios than a 6 speed manual. She'll get used to it!

    Would still be changing gear less than a petrol though with the low down torque of the diesel, especially if it's the 150 CDTI.

    not always true, the Gsi will hit 70 in 2nd gear

    maybe impressive but doesnt do much for the mpg, but there again if that was a concern I wouldn't have bought it!
