    Default Driving Technique

    Hey all,

I'm new to owning a Vecta, a 2004 1.9 cdti with 6 gears. I've never had a 6 speed car although I've owned many motorbikes with 6 gears

I seem to changing gear all the time, there's not much of a rev range for each gear. Just me??

The wife's never gonna cope with all the gears so am thinking of telling her to use 1-4 only. She'll only drive it around town, never likely to go over 40mpm. Good idea?

Diesels dont have the rev range of a petrol car... If she doesnt take it above 40 then 5th is probably the furthest she'll get. LOL

I've had quite a few diesels. It seems that they way this one is geared that the rev range is particularly small..I'm sure I'll get used to it. Last car was a Toyota Estima which was a diesel automatic with only 3 gears hence my left leg isn't used to the work LOL

That'll be part of the reason you're not used to it then. 3 speed auto will have much longer ratios than a 6 speed manual. She'll get used to it!

Would still be changing gear less than a petrol though with the low down torque of the diesel, especially if it's the 150 CDTI.
