Default New Car - Buying Options?

    Hey All,

Looking for a few words of wisdom from you lot

My wife is looking to buy a new car ready for March 13. Off to the dealers on Saturday to go through everything and do the deal.

A couple of friends of hers have bought much the same (Ford KA 1.2 Zetec) and got them on finance. They told her the price is cheaper doing it that way than outright cash purchase?

Now, if she goes in on Saturday (she wont let me go along as i would only try to get her to have all the toys - and that aint happening she says - enough on the Insignia Elite for both of us!!)

I have a feeling her friends might have taken out the finance, then settled in full a month or so later - pay the admin charge for early settlement which would still come in cheaper than if they had gone for cash outright.
Suggested she goes fully down the finance route and get a final settlement figure from the dealer - Then and not before say to them that this would also be the price if paying cash?

Kinda putting them on the spot. Would the dealer be obliged to make the cash sale for the same price as the finance deal??

Ideally she wants to pay outright and have done with it than go through the finance polava - but i guess its all about getting the right deal.

Any thoughts or suggestions on this please?

My opinion, for what it s worth, do not buy a brand new car. I would buy a 3 year old car, probably something like a Kia with a 7 year warranty. If you buy brand new you are losing up to a third of the price as soon as you sign on the dotted line. Just check out all options and scenarios first.

A few people I know have found that if they are prepared to go with a lease deal they can actually pay less over 3 years for a new car then the equivalent 1 year old one.

I do wear the trousers! Its just i am told which ones to wear! End of the day, its her own money being used - Not mine or ours so she has the final choice. I think she will get a good deal regardless of the route she takes, its the 3rd car she has bought from the same sales guy.
