Looking at your other thread, its most likely to do with the type of driving you do. The weather will hit the MPG harder than you probably think. If your only doing 10-20 miles a day regardless of the type of road, I'd have stuck to a good old petrol car.

See i'm not convinced. I do mixed driving but I do 1500 miles a month, I have never had my avg MPG go below 47.4MPG on the trip computer, and thats been with a stuck open thermostat & a swirl rail not attached.

Just had both replaced with brand new items so im hoping I may even hit 50mpg soon.

    When was it last serviced?

Just realised we live VERY close lol

lol so we do. it was last serviced when i bought it in feb this year but when they say they service it, do they? lol as im unsure, i cant stand petrols, i know for the miles i do theres no benifit of having a diesel, i just find petrol, uneconomical. iv had petrols doing the same miles and i seemed worse off, maybe in my mind lol. as a 1.8-2.0 litre only returns 35-40 on a good day so went for the diesel of a hoped return of 50mpg. 20 miles a day is my usual but we do like to just take a random trip 100 miles away for a day away lol

We have my vectra 1.9 estate which at best has been 45mpg and I do a mixture of roads to work and back, which is approx 15miles each way, but we also hav a focus 1.6 petrol, which conveniently has a trip comp built in and on a combined long run we only averaged 36mpg and when I use it for work for a week I was getting 34 average, so I can get another 10mpg out of the diesel, which I do feel should be even better, therefore in my opinion making the diesel worthwhile, even with slightly higher fuel prices, but my diesel does have a lower tax band than a lot of petrols.

Cleaning the EGR is always a good thing to do and if it doesn't increase the mpg, it will certainly reduce the chance of it getting clogged, however you might want to consider blanking the EGR permanently.

Have you tried changing your fuel filter? i was getting really pants MPG for a while but after changing my filter my MPG almost doubled.

Might also be worth checking to make sure your brakes arnt binding as thats another known fault on our cars

evening all. brakes are fine as i can push the car myself. what will blanking the egr do for my car? also will mot emissions pass? defo not going for the petrol version, i love my 1.9 cdti plus the 1.8-2.0 has no comparison on fuel. i just hoped for more than 40mpg

Blanking EGR will stop future clogging issues and I believe will help increase mpg, how much I don't know and it will also give you more bhp, but again not sure how much. You can't just blank EGR if you have dpf like me (estates hav them standard and so do autos I think?) but you can if you get remap to delete EGR and dpf.

I totally get what you are saying, I expected a better mpg too than what I'm getting, but love the car and don't want a petrol either. Mines in garage at mo, EGR cooler pipe had big split in it, decided not to get mas remap yet, so getting new cooler fitted (can't get pipe separate), but I don't know how long it's been split, so maybe this is affecting my mpg a little and I have also decided to replace vacuum pipes now, as I can do it myself and this could also help a little and avoid future split pipes. All in all the little things can add up to affecting mpg. I suppose I have to take into account I have extra weight with towbar and the estates will be slightly heavier.
