Default does anyone know what FUEL is best to use from garages

    Hi all

just a curious question. i have put a thread up in engine trouble shooting about my mpg. a friend of a friend works at vauxhall and said Morrison and Tesco is basically watered down fuel. not literally water but scraps of whats left from BP and esso. is there any truth in this as if so i will go to esso. wanting to try increase my mpg and if morrisons use rubbish fuel i will leave. also for the cost what do you get extra with ultimate diesel?

    many thanks for your time

I personally wouldn't use Tesco fuel - this was from a customers experience.

Used to work in a motorcycle stealership and a customer came in and said his bike was running really badly and cutting out after he had filled up with fuel from above mentioned supermarket. We looked at bike, eventually stripped the carbs completely and found grit in there, after a proper clean and a few replacement parts he was back on the road without the c##p petrol. He never went back to Tesco's and has since never had an issue.

It is an urban myth. If supermarket fuel was that bad every other car you see would have broken down.

    I used to have a 2.0DTi.
I used Shell ordinary and Shell V Power diesel, BP Ultimate and ordinary diesel, Asda and Tesco ordinary diesel. I prefered Shell V power, the car felt better.

I now have a 1.8VVT . I have used Shell Ordinary, Shell V Power, BP Ultimate, asda, Tesco Momentum and Tesco Ordinary petrol. I prefer Tesco momentum, the car feels better, and I think my miles per gallon has increased by about 2 miles per gallon.

the fuel comes from the same refineries for the most part reg unleaded will be the same everywhere I'd say, besides the "bad fuel" happens everywhere am sure that all the supermarkets, shell, BP and so on somebody would have somebody that says their fuel is ****.

thanks for all the replies people. mixed reviews. i have a friend who used tescos when the put additive in the fuel and messed peoples fuel sensors up. so i tend to never use them. tony you say it feels better? in what way, would you say its worth paying the extra per litre for?

Granted the fuel all comes from only a few refineries BUT the individual Co's add additives to the tankers so what you get will be different - boosters and detergents etc cost money which is why branded fuel is often more expensive and hence better for your car (in the long run). I used to work with some boffins that specialised in fuel and they reckoned if you were using supermarket fuel then every 3rd or 4th tank you should fill up with a premium brand! Sainsbury's used to be filled by BP so more often than not you got the better fuel at supermarket prices - that was a few years ago though! Keep an eye out for who fills your local supermarket!
