coolant bleed screw

Hi guys i changed my thermostat over as the previous 1 was duff i followed the how 2's on running the system while topping up i've done the motorway run etc still no hot air and gauge not moving unless in traffic and 2.5k revs.

This evening i trawled the search section again pumped pipes these are hot but easily squeezed i have put CC on Hi and fans on 0 removed the cap and run the car to temp the gauge goes past 80oC as soon as the fans are switched on the gauge drops to 0 again until the fans switched off again

i cant find a picture of the bleed screw for a 2.2 dti if anyone could help it would be appreciated

there are 2 plastic screw covers on the silver pipes at the front but im guessing these are the aircon as they have valves inside like you find on a tyre trying to defrost windows with heated seats takes forever lol

It should be at front of engine. Plastic screw, i replaced mine for brass bolt with fibra washer and is stronger than plastic which breaks! It'll have rubber hoses clamped with either spring or jubliee clips on each end and extra pipe midway.

Round and flat with circle around middle nut lookalike and slotted bit. Black.

The system has a header tank which should eliminate the need to bleed the system, or for it to develop airlocks.

Any air in the system will go to the highest point - yes the header tank.

It could be that the replacement thermostat is also faulty. Only way to know for sure is to remove it and see if it's stuck open. If looks ok, put it in a pan of water and bring the water to the boil. It shouldn't open fully until the water is nearly boiled.

total waste of my time reading this comment as its the same as everyone posts maybe if i put the car on a steep hill that will help with any air trapped

i just changed the stat on mine the other day, after refilling i ran the engine upto temp, leaving the cap off the header tank and fans on 4 and full heat, once it got to 90 odd, the stat opened, the level dropped in the tank, topped it up again, ran it upto temp, and waited for the stat to open again, topped up a tiny bit more, then put cap back on. car has ran perfect since, nice and warm in the car too.

did run it with the cap off?

Yeah Taff i done that mate looking for the bleed valve on a 2.2 dti to try that if not will need to purchase another stat. The temp gauge will climb on low fan setting above 80oc if left to run like that it will probably go higher but if i increase the fan the gauge slowly drops to 0 again once the bottom right rad hose is pumped the hose gets hot but after couple mins its cold again.

Maybe see if it will run to 90oc at the weekend
