Anyone on here repair flat screen tv's ?

Need a Samsung 37" LCD TV problem diagnosed.
When the TV is switched on, after a few mins (15-30 mins approx) the screen breaks up into 4 blocks horizontally.
Each block picture begins to freeze from the bottom up within a couple of seconds of each other, then the image gradually fades to black.
This happens for a few minutes, before the picture comes back, then it'll do the freezing again intermitantly.

Any ideas ?

If it can be repaired, i'd like my lad to have it in his bedroom for his PS3 gaming, i'm buying a new TV when the xmas sales start to replace it.

Hi Fil,

I had a 1st gen Panasonic Viera LCD and that had similar issues - the screen would get black "clouds" across the screen, gradually getting worse the longer it was left on - I questioned the repair on it and they basically told me I needed a new LCD panel - cheaper to buy a new TV, so I did. My screen was only a 32"
Mine didnt go into blocks but this could be something to do with the DA converter.

Could be the image processor/board that drives the actual panel. Might be the best place to start? Wouldn't say the panel was dead from that.

It is true. I work with technology (screens included) day in and day out and by the time you've done with shipping, fault diagnosis, parts, labour and testing, in a majority of cases it's cheaper just to replace the unit. Usually only screens like pioneer, NEC and high end panasonics are worth repairing. Samsung, in my opinion, are the best quality screen out there for the money.

I'd say the panel is ok and it's the control end/ PSU that's not right. Try looking on ebay for the same model but with a broken panel for example and try transplanting bits across maybe. Could be a cheapish fix.

Where are you at? I fix quite a few..... LCD, led and plasma tvs also fix monitors too. Mostly its bad caps or psu units and they are cheap fixes

Ive just repaired my tv, after watching it for 15/20mins it would go off and the black and white screen would come on. Sent it to a local tv repair shop who had if for 2 weeks then called me and said he could fix it for £150 i had already bought a new tv by this time so said no ill come and pick it back up. (which he was not happy about as he wanted to dispose of it) went on ebay and bought a main board put it in bingo cost me £50
