Thanks Sebastian and Ben and Ant. Well in one way, I hope I don't have VXR brakes (they are not blue at least, and if they were silver, then it's all burned off now LOL) because then there is a chance that Ben's wheels (I've got a set I can look at and test soon) might fit mine even if the others don't. So, in a way I'm hoping that the spacesaver goes on and works without catching anywhere. If it doesn't fit, then I'm guessing that the brakes are either warped, or bigger than standard Gsi, maybe even VXR, it just means I get to setup life as a tyre dealer to get rid of my winter 16" wheels and tyres lol.
Hopefully will know one way or other tomorrow. I do like the wheels on Ben's motor though but if they fit, then I'm going to get them and then as soon as it's a bit warmer, my brakes are "going blue"

    Well thanks again guys.
Ant & I fitted both the 16" Spacesaver, and also tried a 16" Irmscher Alloy (from a Vectra) and both fitted the front wheel with no rubbing or contact (only checked the NS due to time).
So it would seem that the standard 16" Vectra Steel (as used up until a few years ago but sorry, no part number to quote) Roadwheel is model specific as far as the Gsi is concerned (born out by earlier dealer confirmation that there is now only one quoted Vx part for a 16" steel wheel across the Vectra range P/N 13184138 (previously there were 2 - a non gsi, and a gsi).
From the photos taken during the session, the brakes appear to be standard Gsi 314, and no, they are not new pads having been fitted before I purchased the vehicle over 6 months ago. So, with apologies for the "nakedness" of the non painted plenum, which will be done in warmer weather next year (blue), photos of the hub are open to view.
Will hopefully be trying an alternative steel option tomorrow and I will update you again then

Winter Wheels Update - Well, have just collected and fitted these wheels. 16" Vx Steel Winter Wheels 6.5J ET39 Ident C6.
As you can see, these are excellent alloy replicas and take a good deal of examination, up close, before you can see that they are actually steel. The Alloy (Plastic) outer trim, actually clamps to the wheel via the wheel bolts, so no need for "cable tie" type fasteners.
For anyone interested, the Vx Part Number - 13198626. The number stamped on the wheel is 2160131 (no reference on Vx's Parts database)
And above all else, despite there being no reference via the local dealership & the Vx computer, these fit the 3.2 Gsi with 314 front brakes.
    Again, for anyone interested, I am advised these will also fit, Astra 98 > , Corsa 06 > , Meriva 03 > , Signum 02 > , Vectra 02 > & Zafira 98 > and also may fit other cars with a 5x110 fitment.

Thanks to all for your input and special thanks to Antowens, cheers m8

Yes m8, Got there in the end, but they were not advertised as structures, so it was all a bit by chance that I arrived in the same place. Nice idea for the wheels though, they really do look like 16" alloys, but if I kerb one, then the steel should survive easily, and the plastic trim well, a fraction of the cost of a replacement alloy.
Anyhow, I'm well chuffed in the end, and prepared for snow when it comes
PS, anyone looking for a cheap set of 16" winter steel wheels and tyres will know I've got a spare set now LOL
