    Default Broken cam chain guide

    i have a vectra c 2.2 elegance (z22se i think) i have only owned for about 2 months.
about two weeks ago i started the engine and suddenly heard a constant tapping noise. the next day it got much more worse all of a sudden and the car cut out and wouldn't start. i think it killed the battery.
i got it towed home and took the timing chain and cylinder head off. the black chain guide came out in two pieces but i'm sure there is more of it missing. the pistons look like they have nicked the inlet valves and the inlet valves don't seem to sit in the head flush.

will i need to change inlet valves?
i was gonna change head gasket as well as a new cam chain kit and balance chain kit

    cheers Froggy

    Hi mate.

I recommend you visit http://www.z22se.co.uk/forum/portal/ for some advice on this engine. There are some really knowledgeable guys over there.

Edit: Plus they have a site shop selling genuine chain kits and spares at great prices.

    Use the above.
Great guy and can get all the kit direct.
Exactly the same for mine 3 months back and I had all valves changed (few seemed bent). Head needs skimming and testing.
Whilst there we also did the piston rings as 2 and 3 were leaking oil. This meant we had to check the sump tray for my missing piece of plastic which never turned up again.
New timing kits put on, gasket's will be needed.
Due to the location of the car it was deemed as very difficult to change the water pump.
Now it's back together I have coolant leak which I believe is the water pump. More cost to change so get it changed whilst there as well.
I wish I had not started this now as I am down 2 grand (other issues as well) and more needed for pump/issues.
Scrap it if you don't have funds unless you know a good guy that will do all at once.

This might help visualize, as for the valves if they have hit they will need replacing.
