Default Tyres needed for xp2 alloys

    Hi all
sorry to post another tyre question but im going round in circles.

    I have xp2 alloys which are 7.5j i think

im after some 225/45/18 tyres, i like the falken 452 but not sure if there is anything better to get.

I liked the neutron nt5000 i had on my 19 snowies before but the closest size they do is 235/40/18 which im not sure if they are too wide for my wheels and has i havent lowered this vectra im not sure if they will fill the arches, i think they are for 8j wheels or wider?

I don't really want to spend more than £100 a tyre as i need 2.

    any help would be great

    many thanks

They should be 45s mate. I just changed from 40's to 45's and the ride difference was noticeable.

225 45 and 235 40 will have a very similar wall height as the wall height is determined by a percentage of the width.

I am running Falken 225/45/18 452's on our Signum with XP2's as well as on the Vectra C which has BK999's 18 on which are 8J and they are fine. I wouldn't run 235's on anything less than 8J but that's me and a lot of tyre companies because they also say 235 40 18 should go on a minium 8J

A rim that is too narrow in relation to the tyre width will allow the tyre to distort excessively sideways under fast cornering. On the other hand, unduly wide rims on an ordinary car tend to give rather a harsh ride because the sidewalls have not got enough curvature to make them flex over bumps and potholes.

235/40/18 is fine for the xp2's got a full set if 4 on mine and they are no different in comfort than 225/45/18

    the tyre wall sizes are:

    225/45/18 =101.25mm
    235/40/18 =94mm

235/40/18 tryes should not really be fitted to 7.5J wheels due to the width. People think they are ok to fit because they are shown as a tyre size in the Vectra manual but the manual does not tell you the wheel width they should be fitted on which is misleading. The tyre height is not the issue here it is the width
